Backup & Recovery
Eventually you will need to recover some data, it's only a matter of time. Ensure that you have reliable backup methodologies in place. Backup should consist of multiple levels, preferrably local (onsite) and offsite. Backup media should be rotated offsite to be accessible in the event of a physical disaster or theft.
Backup methods and process include:
Evaluate backup needs
Determine duration that data needs to be kept
Determine how long data needs to be accessible
Setup local backup
Setup web-based or other offsite backup
Perform data recovery, as needed
Monitor backups to ensure completion
Periodically review data that is backed up
Disaster/Recovery Planning
Business Continuation Planning
Utilize more than one physical piece of media for backups (that is, more than one USB drive for example)
